The Russell Orchards property has a long history as a working farm. As the third family that has owned the farm since its creation in 1920, we, the Russell family, are honored to continue its long tradition.
The farm is comprised of 120 acres of fields, gardens, orchards, and barns. The farm is in a continual state of improvement and growth. Scores of new trees are grafted and transplanted every year, as we strive to reach the enormous potential for productivity that the land offers. Although owned by the Russell Family, the Essex County Greenbelt Association was asked to put an agricultural restriction on the land, and consequently it will never be developed.

During the growing season, we will list the in-season fruits and vegetables that we actively grow and can expect to harvest daily. As with any product, the availability of certain items fluctuates daily with the cycle of supply and demand. Please continue to look for our specialty fruits, herbs and veggies when you come by, and be sure to ask one of us when the next harvest will be. We grow all of the following and more:

We take our stewardship of the land and your trust in our agricultural ethics very seriously. Although we are not certified USDA Organic, many of our fruits and vegetables are grown using tried-and-true organic practices. Our commitment to growing all-natural, excellent vegetables and healthy fruit for you is stronger than ever. We believe deeply that producing local food grown sustainably and ethically is one of the ways that we can contribute to a healthy and happy society!

All of our fruit is IPM (Integrated Pest Management). This means we use only a very limited amount of synthetic chemicals to specifically combat the most egregious of pests. In some cases, no sprays whatsoever have been applied to the crop.

We welcome visitors to the farm store and surrounding area during regular store hours. The areas beyond the fenceline (orchards, fields, and roads) are open to paying pick-your-own customers only during designated picking hours. Please respect the boundaries we have established so that we may continue to engage in the good work of farming.

See our Calendar page to find out what fruits and vegetables are in season. Check back often to see Pick-Your-Own availability. All containers are provided and children are welcome.Remember to always call ahead for pick your own hours and availability.Fruit picked ripe from the farm is a whole different experience!
